Transforming Legal Education Through Trauma-Informed Frameworks
Law schools face a mental health crisis that has expanded to include not just the 70% of law students reporting a need for mental health support, but faculty and staff as well. Faculty are grappling with burnout as they navigate heavy workloads and support struggling students, while staff members, often on the front lines of student services, are managing the emotional weight of their roles with limited resources. The social, political, and economic uncertainties of these times only exacerbate the problem.
Law schools are uniquely positioned to lead the way in addressing these issues. Accrediting bodies and bar associations are increasingly emphasizing the importance of mental health and well-being in legal education, offering an opportunity for institutions to set a new standards of excellence.
Blackbird Trauma Training partners with law schools to apply trauma-informed frameworks to teaching, leadership, and institutional practice. This work helps law schools address immediate mental health concerns while also strengthening their capacity to educate future lawyers.
